On my Takes on the World news and commentary Wed Aug. 14, I began by speaking about the two delegations of US Congressmen and women, Democrats and Republicans that have traveled to Israel during Congressâs August recess instead of two their home districts to meet with their voters and how the mainstream media never reports on these trips.
The Democrat delegation was originally supposed to be made up of freshmen but so many stayed away, they had to fill the vacant spots with old-timers.
On Sunday, both delegations joined together to symbolize Congressâ undying love for Israel and Jewish donors.
Congress had already voted 398 to 17 to condemn BDS as being bigoted but they still had something more to prove.
On the good news side, I reported how a court in British Columbia had determined that wine grown by Israelis in the West Bank could not be sold as coming from Israel and the European Union, following the Court of Justice, is poised to follow suit.
I switched from there to an important story, repressed by the US media about the US and US Zionist leaders being upset that Israel has made a deal to allow a Chinese company to run the port of Haifa for 25 years beginning in 2021, a port where US Navy ships routinely visit. The Navy is not happy nor is the Senate which included a non-binding resolution in the NDAA, calling on China to cancel the deal, which also went unreported in the US media.
I go from there to the case of Chelsea Manning, still imprisoned and being fined daily for refusing to testify against Julian Assange and I express wonderment why the LGBT community has not initiated a campaign to get her out of prison.
I conclude with a tribute to Paul Findley, a brave member of Congress, who was among the first to challenge the Israel Lobby and passed away at age 98, whose book, They Dare to Speak Out, remains one of the great exposes of the power and actions of the Israel Lobby.
