The call to use Second Amendment solutions was made over a decade ago, back then such a call could be called hyperbolic because its use was so foreign to the contemporary mind that fulfilling the desire inside its utterance – to many – seemed like a nightmare unfit for modern reality. While yes, many progressive channels spoke about the use of the phrase, even in their coverage, those who spoke about it did so mockingly. Yes, there had been more modern instances of rightwing terrorism, but in 2010, 2011 and 2012, those instances were few and could be easily defined as “acts committed by crazies”. Then came Dylan Roof and Mother Emmanuel. The Black community was livid, demanding their white contemporaries wake up to the monsters in their midst; only a few really saw the disease spreading out into the masses. Then came the primary victories of Trump after years of Birtherism and an announcement speech dripping heavy with Imperially Racist language. When Trump became the 46th President, panic amongst Progressives forced many who mocked those who threatened their opposition with Second Amendment Solutions, into some deep soul searching. Questions concerning where the country was headed and how best could they right its path, resulted in few answers that felt good. Then came the pandemic and talks from Trump of canceling the election (even if these talks were presented as not serious); and then denial that he lost after he did in fact loose. From there came January 6th, 2021. Suddenly, a reality held frighteningly possible by many Black people in this country, became a stunning possibility for many white people in this country. And now with the 2024 national elections looming, with internal polls showing the Republican nominee (Trump) underperforming in many states; the true nature of this beast begins to present itself. Starting with Second Amendment Solutions, the call to arms is now being proposed in court as an example of president power – we have witnessed the move to using state organized violence against their opponents. Enter Seal Team 6 and see the entire edifice of American Republicanism crumble to the ground.
