Wafa Aludaini, a prominent English-speaking reporter who worked with international news outlets, died alongside her husband, Mueir Aludaini, and their two children in the overnight attack. She was mourned by many fellow journalists who praised her dedication to bringing the stories of Palestinians to the world. “Aludaini was well-known among European media outlets and conveyed the suffering of our people in English, which she was a master of,” Ahmed Abu Artema, a Palestinian journalist and friend of Aludaini, told Middle East Eye. “The justification for her targeting are her words and work as a journalist,” he added….

According to a United Nations inquiry released this month, over 80 percent of the 6,106 protesters wounded in the first nine months of the Great March of Return were shot in the lower limbs. Israeli soldiers intentionally shot civilians and may have committed war crimes in their heavy-handed response to the protests, which have been held regularly across Gaza since 30 March 2018, the report concluded. Healthcare providers say the pattern of wounds shows that Israeli soldiers are purposefully shooting to maim protesters, most of whom are in their 20s and now require long-term medical care. “The soldier knows exactly where he’s putting the bullet. This is not random. This is very intimate. BEIRUT – The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon said on Oct 5 it would not leave positions in the south despite what it said was an Israeli request to “relocate”. “On Sept 30, the IDF (Israeli military) notified Unifil of their intention to undertake limited ground incursions into Lebanon. They also requested we relocate from some of our positions,” the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) said. “Peacekeepers remain in all positions and the UN flag continues to fly. “We are regularly adjusting our posture and activities, and we have contingency plans ready to activate if absolutely necessary,” it added. Israel has intensified its campaign against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah since Sept 23, killing more than 1,110 people and forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes in a country already mired in economic crisis. Israel said earlier this week that it would start carrying out limited ground incursions into south Lebanon. “We continue to urge Lebanon and Israel to recommit to Security Council resolution 1701 – in actions, not just word – as the only viable solution to bring back stability in the region,” Unifil said. In an assassination that risks triggering all-out war in a region already on the brink, Israeli fighter jets dropped approximately 10 bunker-busting bombs on residential buildings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area colloquially known as Dahiyeh, on Friday. Footage seen by Middle East Eye showed thick plumes of smoke rising from the blast site. The Israeli military immediately confirmed it was behind the strikes and initially claimed it targeted Hezbollah’s command centre. Later, Israeli media reported that Nasrallah, 64, was the intended target of the strikes, but did not confirm his death. On Saturday, the Israeli army posted a message on X, saying: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.” The Arabic spokesman of the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, also said in a statement on X that Nasrallah was killed alongside Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, as well as a number of other commanders. “The message is clear: we will reach everyone who threatens the citizens of Israel in the north, in the south and on more distant fronts.” Later, Hezbollah said in a statement: “His eminence, the master of resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away to be with his lord who is pleased with him as a great martyr. “The leadership of Hezbollah pledges… to continue its jihad in confronting the enemy [Israel], supporting Gaza and Palestine and defending Lebanon and its steadfast and honourable people.” The statement did not mention who would succeed Nasrallah or how the group would respond to the assassination of its long-time leader. According to analysts, the man widely regarded as Nasrallah’s heir, Hashem Safieddine, was still alive after Friday’s attack. Safieddine, who oversees Hezbollah’s political affairs and sits on the group’s Jihad Council, is a cousin of Nasrallah. Like Nasrallah, he is a cleric and descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. The US State Department designated Safieddine a terrorist in 2017, and in June, he threatened a big escalation against Israel after the killing of another Hezbollah commander. There has been almost a year of cross-border hostilities between Israel’s forces and Hezbollah, sparked by the war in Gaza. Hezbollah has fired thousands of rockets at northern Israel during that time, forcing some Israelis living there to flee south, while the IDF has launched air strikes and artillery fire against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The number of weekly Israeli attacks on Lebanon more than tripled in the week before the IDF launched its ground invasion. The number of Hezbollah attacks, while small in comparison, also increased in the same week. Reported attacks peaked in the last week of September, with 823 Israeli attacks and 112 Hezbollah attacks. Israel has intensified strikes on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, in recent days. The majority of the strikes have hit Dahieh, a southern suburb of the city and a densely populated area that is home to thousands of civilians. The suburb, close to the international airport, has a strong Hezbollah presence and a series of Israeli strikes on buildings in the area killed Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah on 27 September. There have also been Israeli aerial attacks on locations closer to the centre of the city. A strike on an apartment block close to the Lebanese parliament building on 2 October killed several people, including rescue officers and paramedics, according to Beirut’s civil defence.

Mark had been talking to dazed and injured passengers as they emerged from the smoke and chaos below and listening back to the Guardian’s first report of the day is unsettling. Despite the official story of Mohammad Sidique Khan blowing himself up in the carriage, Honigsbaum says ‘We believe there was an explosion this morning under the carriage of a train’. ‘The tiles, the covers on the floor suddenly flew up, raised up,’ he went on, derailing the Metropolitan Line carriages into the path of an oncominng train. A former officer in Israel’s SAS, the Sayeret Matkal, Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to be arriving at a Great Eastern Hotel conference just as Shehzad Tanweer’s Liverpool Street tube bomb was going off below the hotel. Netanyahu was reported that morning by Amy Teibel on Associated Press’ Jerusalem Desk to have ‘changed plans due to a warning’ from Scotland Yard, and thankfully Bibi had not left his hotel. The Israeli embassy have since denied having any warning but Israeli government Press Officer Dan Sheham told journalists, including the Scottish Sunday Herald’s foreign affairs editor David Pratt, embassy security was ‘beefed up’ around 7am that day. The four simultaneous bombs, three on tube trains and one on a bus were supposed to have been a surprise attack. An Israeli firm also had access to London’s tube tunnels, winning a CCTV contract when parts of the Underground were privatised a few months before the attacks. Verint Systems looked like a good bet but someone didn’t do due diligence because the fraudster chairman Kobi Alexander, of Verint’s parent company, Comverse Technologies, was on the run. He was evading the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) somewhere in Africa after disappearing with $13m of company money….

The I-Unit has built up a database of thousands of videos, photos and social media posts. Where possible it has identified the posters and those who appear. The material reveals a range of illegal activities, from wanton destruction and looting to the demolition of entire neighbourhoods and murder. Establishment media outlets like the BBC are weaponising the language of their reporting against audiences no less effectively than Israel weaponised primitive pieces of technology against the people of Lebanon. Thousands of Lebanese were maimed by exploding pagers and walkie-talkies last week. Likewise, the media coverage is mangling the ability of western publics to understand how and why Israel is dangerously stoking fires across the region. Words like “audacious”, “escalation” and “targets” have become tools to conceal meaning, not to illuminate – and for good reason. Because Israel’s actions are so obviously criminal, so obviously horrifying, so obviously genocidal. Language becomes a weapon to hide the truth. The media chorus goes like this: Israel is attacking Lebanon to stop Hezbollah rocket fire and allow the residents of Israel’s most northerly communities to return home. Or in the blunter, Orwellian language of Israeli officials framing this horror show: Israel must “escalate to de-escalate”. Lebanese civilians are paying the heaviest price: some 550 of them were killed in the first day of Israel’s bombing campaign alone. Many tens of thousands have been driven – ethnically cleansed – from the territory of south Lebanon. Why? Because, says Israel, Hezbollah has hidden its cache of rockets in their homes. We are here. The world is with you,” one supporter shouted before Assange entered the Council of Europe building early Tuesday. “I am not free today because the system worked,” Assange said. “I am free today after years of incarceration because I pled guilty to journalism.” He added: “I pled guilty to seeking information from a source. I pled guilty to obtaining information from a source. And I pled guilty to informing the public what that information was.” Assange was released in June after five years in a British prison after he pleaded guilty to obtaining and publishing U.S. military secrets in a deal with Justice Department prosecutors that concluded a drawn-out legal saga. Prior to his time in prison, he had spent seven years in self-imposed exile in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he claimed asylum on the grounds of political persecution. The transition from years in a maximum security prison to addressing the European parliamentarians has been a “profound and a surreal shift,” Assange said as he detailed the experience of isolation in a small cell. “It strips away one’s sense of self, leaving only the raw essence of existence,” he said, his voice cracking while he offered an apology for his “faltering words” and an “unpolished presentation.” “I’m not yet fully equipped to speak about what I have endured — the relentless struggle to stay alive, both physically and mentally,” Assange said. His appearance on Tuesday comes after the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly published a report on Assange’s detention in a high-security U.K. prison for five years. The assembly’s human rights committee said Assange qualified as a political prisoner and issued a draft resolution expressing deep concern at his harsh treatment.

William Cooper was awarded several medals for his leadership and heroism during combat including two with “V” for Valor. He served on the Intelligence Briefing Team for the Commander In Chief of the Pacific Fleet. William was the Petty Officer of the Watch and designated KL-47 SPECAT operator in the CINCPACFLT Command Center at Makalapa Hawaii. There he held a Top Secret, Q, SI, security clearance. William Cooper achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer, QM1, E-6 after only 8 years of Naval service, a difficult task in any branch of the United States military.
