Listen to hour 1 of CKUT's Native Solidarity News - produced and hosted by the members of Montreal's ITYC, an inner city drop-in which urban aboriginal youth can call their own.
Credits proceed to the youth of the ITYC - who produced and hosted this show, taking over the airwaves to let people know what issues inner city aboriginals face, directly from the people who are experiencing the said issues. Further credits alloted to Tommy K and Mattiusie, who rapped in Inuqtituq live on air.
Funded by the Regroupement des Centres d'Amitie Autoctones du Quebec (RCAAQ), The Inter-Tribal Youth Center provides a safe space for urban aboriginal youth, offering recreational and educational activities within the context of aboriginal youth empowerment. CKUT Radio has been instrumental in its collaboration with the ITYC, and has helped enable youth empowerment in the form of producing media on the issues that directly effect them. This experience on the radio has also targeted literacy, as the youth are often reading articles concerning native news directly on air. The views expressed in the following radio shows are not necessarily to be attributed to neither RCAAQ nor CKUT, but rather to the person who expressed them.
