On the 27th of July, Greenpeace activists shut down all BP gas stations in London by confiscating the emergency shutdown switches, disconnecting the pumps.
With the same part missing at every BP station, some were closed all day, while others, no doubt those deemed higher priorities, got new shutoff switches earlier in the day. Presumably the supply of replacement cutoff switches was a severe restriction on how fast BP would reopen their London gas stations. BP, for their part, petulantly claimed that Greenpeace missed some of the stations.

Signs posted by the activists read "Closed-moving beyond petroleum."
