Amy Goodman is the host of "Democracy Now!," the daily syndicated radio program. Amy is an award winning-journalist who has covered U.S. foreign policy and reported for Pacifica Radio in Mexico, Haiti and Indonesia. In 1991, with fellow journalist, Allan Nairn, she experienced a massacre of peaceful demonstrators in occupied East Timor. She is the recipient of some of mainstream journalism's highest honors, including The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, the Armstrong Award, the Radio/Television News Directors Award, & the George Polk Award. Along with Jeremy Scahill, she produced the investigative documentary, DRILLING AND KILLING: CHEVRON AND NIGERIA'S OIL DICTATORSHIP which was awarded by the Overseas Press Club in 1999. The pair declined the honor in protest of the Club's agreement that journalists not question the keynote speaker US Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke at the awards dinner, in the midst of the US bombing of Yugoslavia. In August, 2001 Democracy Now began broadcasting from the studios of Downtown Community TV, in exile from Pacifica station WBAI in New York, after disputes with management created a hostile work environment there. Since then, the show has gone on to pioneer the largest public media collaboration in the U.S., airring on Pacifica, community, pirate radio, and NPR stations; public access cable television stations, satellite television (on Free Speech TV, channel 9415 of the DISH Network), shortwave radio and the internet. Amy Goodman has earned a reputation for asking hard questions of people in power, but on January 17, she was on the other side of the microphone as, John Malkin, host of The Great Leap Forward, and V-Man, host of Rockin' the Boat were able to ask Amy Goodman a few questions of their own.....
