In 1960s Eastern Europe, rock and roll was a "worthless product of decadent and rotten Western Capitalism" that was persecuted by the authorities. Vanguard groups went underground to create their own their own fuzzed out, tripped out psychedelic, progressive, and experimental rock and roll throughout the 70s and 80s: Illés, Metró and Omega in Hungary, Plastic People of the Universe in Czechoslovakia, Bijelo Dugme in Yugoslavia, and Kino in the Soviet Union.
